Course overview

The Level 2 Diploma Patient Care Assistance takes approximately 18 months – 2 years and will provide you with an introduction to the principles of animal nursing and care.

This course is designed to provide an opportunity for learners to demonstrate their skills and understanding of providing high level care to animals in a veterinary environment, assisting Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Surgeons.

Entry requirements

You'll be expected to have a minimum of 4 National 5s (A-C) (preferably English, Maths and a science – equivalent qualifications will be considered).

A minimum of two weeks work experience in an animal related environment with experience in a veterinary practice giving a distinct advantage.

For distance learning, you must be employed in a veterinary practice.

techniques in patient care

It will provide you with the essential practical experience and knowledge you need to ensure you are well prepared for work as an assistant in a veterinary practice, as well as for further study.

Course Funding

Full-time students of Level 2 Diploma Patient Care Assistance can apply for a Further Education Bursary.

Once you’ve accepted a place, we’ll email the bursary funding online application. Complete the application and return it along with any required documents. You should apply even if you're still waiting for exam results.

Tuition fees are waived for students who qualify for a bursary.

Education Maintenance Allowance: Students between the ages of 16-19 who meet specific criteria may be entitled to an EMA. This means-tested allowance depends on the income of the home the student stays in.
